Saskatchewan's Rural Bridge And Culvert Projects Receive Funding

The Federal and Provincial Governments announced $2.1 million in joint funding last week.

SARM President Ray Orb says the funding for repairs was obviously needed.

"I think that we received funding into, especially the bridges, in Saskatchewan. We have over 1400 bridges in our own Saskatchewan and they are a lot of them obviously that need replacing, or repair. So this is welcome news."

He notes bridges are the connectors that keep freight and traffic moving which helps not only the local economy, but the provincial economy as well.

And SARM is also seeing a number of RM's in the Province, declaring drought related agricultural emergencys.

Orb says at this point they have already received over 40 local agricultural emergency declarations.

"Of course, we've been getting RM's sending them in as they have their council meetings. I'm sure we're going to get more in the next couple of weeks. It's important that RM's evaluate what's happening out in their in their townships, to make sure that well the federal government knows about this and the province knows about it.

He note this is one of the worst droughts, as far as being wide spread, that producers have seen in years.
