Seeding at 9 percent across Saskatchewan

Seeding is well underway across much of Saskatchewan.

Provincial extension crops specialist Shannon Friesen says a slow start to seeding has delayed field operations in much of the province.

Friesen says 9 percent of the crop has been planted, behind the average of 19 percent for this time of year.

Seeding ranges from 18 percent in the southwest to 3 percent in the northern grainbelt.

Friesen says there were a few showers this week, with Swift Current receiving the largest amount of 10 millimeters.

But she says southern areas remain dry and there have been numerous wildfires and more rain would be welcome.

Topsoil moisture is rated 3 percent surplus, 67 percent adequate, 25 percent short and 5 percent very short.
