Soil Test Warranted Following Large Cereal Crop

Soil Test Warranted Following Large Cereal Crop

This year's larger than expected cereal crop has likely left the soil depleted.

That from Angela Brackenreed, agronomist with the Canola Council of Canada.

She recommends getting a soil test done to make sure the ground is ready for next year`s crop.

"When we get that result back, let's look closely at the phosphorus level. If you're less than 10 ppm, with the Olsen or bicarb method, we're starting to get quite low. It just takes so much time to bring those numbers back up, so better to plan to start gradually and maybe consider a a big application when it's economical."
