The Southwest Research & Outreach Center (SWROC) will host Winter Crops and Soils Day Tuesday, February 3 in Luverne and Wednesday, February 4 in both Lamberton and Granite Falls. Winter Crops and Soils Day is a public event highlighting current University of Minnesota research that is specific to southwestern Minnesota. Leading experts from the University will be on hand to present information and answer questions.
On Tuesday, February 3, registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the program will go from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Blue Mound Banquet & Meeting Center in Luverne. On Wednesday, February 4, registration at the American Legion in Granite Falls will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the program from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration at the SWROC in Lamberton will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the program will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Speakers from the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul Campus and Research and Outreach Centers will cover topics including understanding risks when reducing pest management inputs in corn and soybeans, improving waterhemp management, input management related to soybean production, phosphorus movement from fertilizers to waterways and factors impacting crop production and profitability. Speakers are: Bruce Potter, Tom Hoverstad, Dr. Paulo Pagliari, Dr. Seth Naeve, and Don Nitchie.
SWROC’s Winter Crops and Soils Day is open to the public. The $30 registration fee covers handouts, refreshments and lunch. Pre-registration is required. Continuing education units for certified crop advisers will be provided in the areas of Integrated Pest Management (1.0 CEUs), Professional Development (0.5 CEUs), Nutrient Management (0.5 CEUs) and Crop Management (0.5 CEUs).
