Spring Corn Harvest Underway

Manitoba farmers are busy wrapping up last year's corn harvest.

Dean Toews farms in the MacGregor area. He says this week they are finishing up harvesting about 850 acres of corn that was left out over the winter. They also custom combined an additional 800 acres this spring.

"Quality has been good," he said. "We're actually getting a little heavier test weight than the stuff we did in November/December. There's been very little that we've left out in the field. There's some slight deer damage along certain fields."

Toews says they've been harvesting corn since the start of March, noting trucks have been able to drive on the frozen ground.

He adds most of the corn crop coming off is being dried.
