U of M Researcher Being Honoured By Royal Society Of Canada

A University of Manitoba researcher is being recognized for his work with grain storage.

Professor Digvir Jayas, vice-president (research and international), will be receiving the 2019 Sir John William Dawson Medal from the Royal Society of Canada.

“It is an honour to receive this award that recognizes the accomplishments and impact of my research program, which would not be possible without the hard work of every graduate student I have been blessed to work with,” Jayas said. “It’s a privilege to work with them, and with so many wonderful colleagues around the globe.”

For over 30 years, Jayas has been a world leader in research on stored-grain ecosystems. He has authored or co-authored over 900 articles including 400 peer-reviewed manuscripts in his field.

He leads the development of 3-D mathematical models and also pioneered the concept of drying grain by forcing air horizontally rather than vertically to reduce energy costs during the drying process, resulting in more uniformly dried grains. Jayas has also designed a “Grain-o-bot” to assist in the automation of grain handling without cross-contamination of grains.

Jayas talked about some of the challenges that farmers are facing during this wet harvest.

Video: Iran War = “Trend is Your Friend” Short-Term BUT……

Historically wars like the 2026 Iran war are bullish hard assets like grains, metals and energy! The funds are spooked and do not want to be short, but do they price in the news over time, similar to the Ukraine/Russian war that started on Feb. 24, 2022? A closure of the Strait of Hormuz is the key to the surge in crude oil, natural gas prices and fertilizer prices.  Grains are breaking out to new contract highs as a hedge against inflation.
