USDA Releases Prospective 2019 Planting Report

The USDA released it's 2019 prospective planting report Friday.

According the report, the department is pegging corn acres will be up 4 per cent, or 3.66 million acres, from 2018 to 92.8 million acres.

Soybean acres are expected to be down 5 per cent this year to 84.6 million.

The USDA is also anticipating a decrease of 4 per cent for all wheat acreage in 2019, for an estimated total of 45.8 million acres. According to the department, this represents the lowest all wheat planted area on record since records began in 1919.

About 22.4 million acres are Hard Red Winter, 5.55 million acres are Soft Red Winter, and 3.55 million acres are White Winter.

Area planted to other spring wheat for 2019 is projected at 12.8 million acres, down 3 percent from 2018. About 12.4 million acres of that are Hard Red Spring wheat.

Durum is estimated at 1.42 million acres, down 31 percent from the previous year.
