Weeds Starting To Emerge

The province's weed specialist Tammy Jones says farmers are already seeing weeds in their fields.

She commented on the upcoming growing season.

"I don't think moisture is a limitation in most areas this year, so that's nice. Those weeds will be taking advantage of that. They'll also be taking advantage of some somewhat balmy temperatures that we're having right now. They really will be starting to progress along quite quickly and that gets them at a stage, as far as herbicide control. We do need to think about if we're using a herbicide for a tool, that we're doing it when the timing is right."

Jones expects to see a lot more perennial weeds this year, in addition to winter annuals.
