What's The Story Behind The Harvest Moon Tonight?

Tonight, Friday the 13th, is a Full Harvest Moon.

Many people hear the term but don't necessarily know the story behind it.

The Farmer’s Almanac is a well-known publication that features a number of interesting facts, fun and folklore in their annual almanac and online website.

Sandi Duncan, the Managing Editor for the Farmer’s Almanac says the name for the Harvest Moon dates back centuries to the First Nations who named the full moons depending on what was going on in their life at that time.

The full Harvest Moon was named because of its brightness and the fact that it allowed them more light to work.

It’s also the first full moon closest to the Fall Equinox which occurs September 23rd this year.

What makes the Harvest Moon special is that it rises pretty much as soon as the sun sets, and is only full in that exact moment which will be at about 10:33 pm tonight.
