The Alberta Wheat and Barley Commission continues to keep producers apprised of the impact of the COVID 19 virus on the sector.

The commissions Have focused on priorities identified by farmer members.

They include ensuring that crop insurance claims are processed prior to spring seeding, farming inputs are available for spring and throughout the rest of the season, that grain exports continue to maintain farm revenue streams and to ensure that on farm storage is available at harvest.

It’s an approach that equally considers vegetation, animal efficiency, and long-term profitability.

That philosophy aligned naturally with Wooten’s involvement in the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef, where he served as a representative for the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association. The roundtable brings together the entire beef supply chain—from producers to retailers—along with universities, NGOs, and allied industries. Its goal is not regulation, Wooten emphasized, but collaboration, shared learning, and continuous improvement.
