Winter snow helps grain prices grow come spring, says Saskatchewan market analyst

There appears to be some indications of grain price improvement for Saskatchewan farmers this spring.

Market analyst Jon Driedger of FarmLink Marketing Solutions says large world supplies have pushed grain markets to multi-year lows.

But he says dry weather in Russia and the Canadian prairies, as well as possible winter kill in the U.S. southern plains, could prompt grain markets to move upward.

“These are the sorts of things that where there’s maybe not a lot of action today and it’s still early, and yet people are paying more and more attention as you start creeping a little bit closer to spring,” said Driedger. “Those are the sorts of things that you have the market watching and talking about and paying attention to.”
