The term cultivator is not specific to any one piece of farm equipment, but, essentially can be defined as any implement used for secondary tillage. Cultivators can be implements with frames and teeth designed to cut into the soil for more shallow tillage or an implement using rotary discs (rotary tiller) to accomplish the same job. When shopping for a cultivator, be sure to consider your soil type and whether you require a primary tillage implement such as a chisel plow to break-up the tough land before using a cultivator for secondary tillage.
