Skid Steers
Invented by brothers Cyril and Louis Keller in 1957, their original front end loader has evolved into what we recognize today as a skid steer or skid steer loader, depending on what attachments are being used. Initially developed to help a turkey farmer clear manure from his barn, the first model had three wheels - one of which was a rear caster that enabled zero radius turning. It wasn't until 1960 that the skid steer we know and love today was brought to market. Manufactured by the Melroe brothers of North Dakota, the first true skid steer to have 4 wheels and a rear axle became known as the Melroe Bobcat.
