Video: Growing Flax in the Northeast

Flax is a new crop to the Northeast region, known for having high concentrations of Omega-3 fatty acids that benefit human and animal health; research has shown that livestock eating flax produce milk and meat with higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids, precursors to hormones that help prevent cardiovascular disease, cancer, and inflammation. The Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program funded Dr. Heather Darby director of UVM Extension's Northwest Crops and Soils Program to help develop recommendations for suitable varieties, weed control, planting dates, yield, and quality. This video discusses organic weed control strategies for flax.
