This breed of cattle originated in Egypt and made their way through Africa before zoos imported them into Europe. The cattle’s large horns made them popular as attractions in Europe and they were brought to the U.S. for the same reason in the 1920s and 1930s. It took awhile for this breed to change from an attraction to farm animal but, in 1983, the Ankole Watusi International Registry was created, and the rest is history.
