In October, multiple ag industry organizations voiced their support or opposition for Bill C-282, which removes supply management from future trade deals.
The dairy sector supports the legislation, for example, while the beef industry says bill handcuffs any future trade talks.
An amendment passed in a Senate committee in November only protects supply management in new trade agreements.
As of Dec. 2, the amendment hasn’t been voted on in the full Senate. If it passes, the bill goes back to the House.
