The Cypress Farm & Ranch Show takes place June 12-14

A new farm show in Alberta is on the calendar for 2025.

The Cypress Farm & Ranch Show (CFRS) takes place June 12-14 at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede.

The show is the brainchild of Dave Fiddler, a retired farmer and event management business owner.

His company, Horizon Consulting, has helped put together past Western Canada Farm Progress Shows (now Canada’s Farm Show), Farmfair International, and Agri-Trade events.

The CFRS isn’t just about having another farm show. It’s about having one in an area that is lacking when it comes to these kinds of events, Fiddler says.

“We did a lot of research and determined the Medicine Hat region is underserved with respects to farm events,” he told Farms.com. “Agricultural census data tells us the farms and ranches here are larger, and the investment in equipment is more significant than anywhere else in Canada.”

Cypress County had 805 farms, the 2016 Census of Agriculture says. Together, those operations’ total farm value market capital exceeding $3.1 billion. Machinery accounted for more than $323 million of that.

And the farms generated more than $454 million in gross farm receipts.

“It’s quite a diverse and interesting area with lots of farming and ranching communities,” Fiddler said. “And you’ve got the St. Mary River Irrigation District that comes right through Medicine Hat.

Fiddler is currently accepting exhibitor applications.

The response has been positive thus far, he says.

“I’m quite pleased with how the applications are rolling in,” he said. “And we’ve got a robust speaker lineup coming together too.”

The confirmed speakers so far include Dave Sullivan from Global Ag Risk Solutions, Warren Bills from MNP, and Dan Aberhart will make a presentation about innovative fertilizer solutions.

The show in June will be held in conjunction with the World Professional Chuckwagon Association Races.
