Learn About Carbon Storage Plans, Give Your Feedback

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) of Ontario is spearheading the development of a new legislative and regulatory framework aimed at facilitating commercial-scale geologic carbon storage across the province.

This initiative could significantly impact land management and environmental conservation strategies in Ontario, particularly in regions like southwestern Ontario, identified as prime candidates for such storage solutions.

To craft these regulations thoughtfully, MNR has prepared a discussion paper, available on the Environmental Registry at Environmental Registry of Ontario.

This document outlines potential framework components and poses critical questions to the public, seeking input on how to best regulate this innovative activity.

Understanding the importance of community involvement, MNR is organizing an engagement session specifically for landowners and farmers in southwestern Ontario.

This session is a dual-format event, with both in-person and virtual attendance options, ensuring wide accessibility.

For those wishing to join in person, the session will take place in London, ON, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Due to limited space, potential attendees are encouraged to register in advance here

Alternatively, a virtual session will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, also from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Interested participants can register online to secure a spot.

Both sessions will delve into the key aspects of the proposed framework as presented in the discussion paper, allowing attendees to ask questions and provide their feedback directly to the policymakers.

This is a critical opportunity for landowners to voice their interests and concerns regarding the future of geologic carbon storage in their region.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is committed to transparently developing policies that reflect the needs and values of Ontario's citizens, particularly those directly affected by such projects.

By participating, landowners can help shape the policies that will govern Ontario's approach to sustainable environmental management.
