3) Prairie governments unhappy with federal fertilizer emissions reduction target

In July, following the signing of the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the governments of Saskatchewan and Alberta voiced displeasure with the federal government’s goal of reducing fertilizer emissions by 30 per cent by 2030.

The prairie governments said that Prime Minister Trudeau and Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau “unilaterally imposed (consultations) on industry, not to consult on what is achievable or attainable.”
