The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is celebrating a significant milestone – 75 years of supporting homeownership in rural and Tribal communities.
Secretary Vilsack reaffirmed the administration's dedication to ensuring access to safe and affordable housing, particularly in underserved areas.
USDA highlights the achievements of its Rural Development homeownership programs. Since 1949, these programs have empowered nearly 5 million individuals and families to become homeowners.
This success story encompasses over 2.2 million direct home loans, 455,000 home repairs assisted, and over 56,000 families who built their own homes through the Mutual Self-Help program.
The administration has built upon this legacy by investing over $43 billion, aiding nearly 266,000 families in rural and Tribal areas.
The USDA offers valuable resources for potential homebuyers. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Home Loan Toolkit and USDA's Single Family Housing Self-Assessment site equip individuals with the knowledge to prepare for homeownership.
USDA's Rural Development programs play a vital role in supporting rural Americans. Programs like the Single Family Housing Direct Home Loan Program offer low interest rates and flexible down payments, making homeownership attainable for lower-income families.
Additionally, the Home Repair Loan and Grant Program helps existing homeowners improve their living conditions.
USDA's commitment extends to fostering broader economic development in rural areas. They provide loans and grants for infrastructure projects, business ventures, and community facilities like schools and healthcare centers.
