$313 Million Investment supports rural development
USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack announced over $313 million in funding to expand high-speed internet access to rural areas in 18 states. This initiative, part of the ReConnect Program, aligns with President’s Investing in America agenda to rebuild the economy and promote innovation.
“Keeping the people of rural America connected with good, reliable high-speed internet brings new and innovative ideas to the rest of our country and creates good-paying jobs,” said Vilsack.
The funding will support projects like Michigan’s Waldron Communication Co., which received $6 million to connect 599 people, 18 businesses, and 32 farms. In Washington, the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation will benefit from a $19.1 million grant to enhance connectivity for farms and businesses.
Since 2021, the ReConnect Program has provided $4.4 billion to connect over 680,000 people in underserved areas. The program is a vital component of the Internet for All initiative, aiming to ensure every American has high-speed internet by 2030.
