U.S. farmers may find USDA survey requests in with their Amazon and other Christmas packages this month and in early 2024.

Here are some of the questionnaires the USDA is sending out beginning in December.

Beginning Dec. 18, the USDA will mail the 2023 Census of Aquaculture.

This industry produced $1.5 billion of seafood in 2017, and supported 1.7 million American jobs, the Office for Coastal Management says.

All producers who on their 2022 Census of Agriculture indicated they produce and sell aquaculture products will receive the aquaculture survey.

The deadline to respond is Jan. 15, 2024.

Keeping with the 2022 Census of Agriculture, the USDA revealed when it will publish census data.

The USDA and its National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will release the data on Feb. 13, 2024.

In December 2023, USDA will begin conducting the 2024 Commercial Floriculture Survey for the 2023 production year.

About 10,000 farmers should expect to receive the survey, NASS says.

The USDA expects to publish data by May 2024.

December will also see the USDA prepare to conduct the third and final phase of the 2023 Agricultural Resource Management Survey.

More than 40,000 U.S. farmers will receive the survey, which asks to provide detailed information about operating revenues, production costs and household characteristics.

“The results of this survey are the only source of information available for objective evaluation of many critical issues related to agriculture and the rural economy,” NASS says.

The USDA is also reminding producers of an upcoming survey deadline.

Farmers from across the country who received a survey code for the 2023 Irrigation and Water Management Survey have until Feb. 15, 2024, to provide their responses.

Farmers can also expect to receive paper questionnaires in January. They only need to respond once to be counted in the survey.

NASS will release the data from this survey in November 2024.
