AgriStability enrollment deadline extended in Saskatchewan

Farmers will have more time to enroll in AgriStability.

Federal Ag Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau and Agriculture Minister David Marit have extended the 2022 AgriStabaility program enrollment deadline without penalty to June 30, 2022.

The move is designed to help producers manage the impact of avian influenza (bird flu), current market disruptions, increased expenses and production challenges.

Bibeau says many producers are facing stress and uncertainty due to circumstances beyond their control.

"This step to extend the enrollment deadline will help more producers manage the impact of challenges facing their farm operations and provide them with more time to take advantage of the support available under AgriStability."

AgriStability helps protect a producer's bottom line against production loss, increased costs or market conditions.

Marit says the uncertainty of this year's growing season it reinforces the importance of the Business Risk Management Programs, noting the deadline extension gives producers additional time to customize their risk management package for their operations.

In the last five program years, Saskatchewan producers have received over $435 million in benefit payments.

Recent changes to the AgriStability Program make it more responsive for producers - removing the reference margin limit from the program means payments are now more predictable, more equitable and more efficient across all agriculture sectors.

Creating Pollinator Habitat From Farmland

Video: Creating Pollinator Habitat From Farmland

Why did we turn this land in to pollinator habitat? We we rented this farm consisting of six fields this 23 acres was the most challenging. Nine acres of is a large sandhill with trees all along the North edge. Most years it wouldn't produce very much grain at all. So when we bought this farm we decided it was time to take that hill out of production and put it to good use. So we seeded it to pollinator habitat. Here's a look at it three years in, and it's looking better every year. There's a strong marestail seedbank out there, but the pollinator species are beating it back a little more each year. The grasses have really come on strong this year. And we have a neighbor who keeps some beehives on the habitat. Hope you enjoy taking a tour of our pollinator habitat!
