Alberta Open Farm Days registration deadline extended

The registration deadline for host farms to participate in Alberta Open Farm Days has been extended.

The original deadline was May 31, but it has been extended to June 3.

CEO Tim Carson says there has been a lot of interest in the annual event with 100 farms signing up to host so far.

“Back in 2019… pre-pandemic, we had 150 farms participating in the program, so we’re just sort of inching our way back to historic numbers.”

“We had Open Farm Days right through the pandemic. It was a great way for people to get outside and still experience Alberta.”

Carson says there will be lots of things for visitors to see.

“We have a tremendous diversity of opportunities for education and information from our host farms.”

“We have everything from alpaca farms to the apiary and honey industry through bison and, obviously, the traditional farming, which is cattle and the hogs and chickens and all those types of things.”

He adds places like u-picks and agri-tourism operations will also take part.

“We’ve also got a lot of our… I’ll call them downstream; directly related to agriculture industries (like) wine, meadery, distilleries, and craft breweries (that) are also very much involved with Alberta Open Farm Days as they are directly connected to our agriculture industry.”

Alberta Open Farm Days is marking 10 years this year. The 2022 edition is set for August 13 and 14.
