He is currently a Professor in the Department of Genetics (School of Medicine) and Nutrition (School of Public Health) at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.  In his academic career, Daniel has published over 150 papers and many review articles and book chapters on genetics and genomics with applications to both the agricultural and biomedical sciences.  He has served as Chair of the US National Animal Genome Research Program, was on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Animal Genome Research, and is on the editorial boards for many journals and the advisory boards for several organizations spanning many facets of global agriculture and life science.
