Farmers Donate Fresh Chicken to Food Bank

BROCKVILLE, ON – Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, and Mayor Jason Baker, joined Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) to present fresh, nutritious, locally-grown chicken to the Brockville and Area Food Bank. The Brockville and Area Food Bank received a full pallet of fresh chicken, totalling 700kgs. This most recent donation is in addition to two similar donations made in January and May.

“I want to thank the Chicken Farmers of Ontario for supporting the Brockville and Area Food Bank with this donation of fresh, local chicken through the CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program. I was pleased to learn about the program when I met with CFO at Queen’s Park and wanted to make sure we could take advantage of it locally. It’s another example of how farmers and our agricultural sector are so generous in giving back to their communities to help those in need, particularly as we enter the holiday season,” said Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.

The donation was made as part of the CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program. Since 2015, the program has donated over 4 million meals of fresh, nutritious, locally-grown chicken to food banks across the province.

“Ontario’s chicken farmers are community members, volunteers, coaches, group leaders, and families that take pride in helping our neighbours and giving what we can, when we can. Through our CFO Cares Farmers to Food Banks program, hundreds of farmer families donate to local food banks in communities across Ontario, doing our part to tackle hunger,” said Tim Klompmaker, Board Director of Chicken Farmers of Ontario for District 9.

CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks works in partnership with Feed Ontario (formerly known as the Ontario Association of Food Banks), which supports over 500,000 adults, seniors, and children that visit food banks in Ontario each year.

This collaborative initiative enables CFO farmers to donate up to 300 locally-grown chickens to food banks across the province. This year, 500 Ontario family chicken farms are participating in the program and donating fresh, nutritious, locally-grown chicken to Ontarians in need.

“Under the responsible supply management system, Ontario chicken farmers are providing Ontario consumers with safe, nutritious, locally-grown chicken. Ontario’s chicken farmers support jobs, local economies, and together - through the CFO Cares Farmers to Food Banks program - our farmer-members are supporting those in need,” said Rob Dougans, President and CEO of Chicken Farmers of Ontario.
