Frontier Days is always a big event for 4-H members

It was a busy weekend for 4-H members as they wrapped up their year at Frontier Days.

One of the highlights in the Livestock area is always the 4-H steer sale.

Businesses, producers and individuals have an opportunity during the sale to reward beef club members for their hard work by buying some good quality beef.

This year, 98 steers were sold during the 4-H Steer Sale for an average of $2.97 per pound.

The Grand Champion Steer owned by Hillary Sauder of the Ernfold 4-H Club sold for $3.60 per pound sold to Sawatzky Family.

The Reserve Champion Steer owned by Laramie Greenwood of the Wymark 4-H Club sold for $3.50 per pound sold to Breed Creek Angus.

The high selling steer was owned by Cooper Smyth of the Nomads 4-H Club and was bought by Plewis Automotive for $7.25 per pound.

4-Her's also have an opportunity to take part in the 4-H Judging Competition.

This year 136 participants, ranging in age from 6 to 2, took part in the event where they judged beef steers, beef heifers, heavy horse, goats, yellow peas, and a mystery class of barn cats.

The Provincial team consists of senior members (16-21) and the oldest intermediate members (15).

Provincials this year are in Saskatoon in August, with the top 8 from provincials then qualify to go on to Agribition for the judging competition
