Hay Market Demand And Price Report For Midwest.

Hay price declined about $20.00/ton on this report compared to the previous report . Small lot s of small square bale hay didn ’ t support the market . Some hay classes only had one sale this week. All market s commented on weak demand for a good supply of hay.

For Nebraska , demand remains light with reports of very good forage yields . There are reports of s econd crop hay being made . There are concerns of drought conditions in the state.

For Iowa , lower quality hay is depressing pric es at the market . Dairy quality hay does have some demand. Overall supply is good with lower demand currently. There was no report of organic hay this week.

In South Dakota , market prices ar e lower for all qualities of hay . Demand is light at best. About 3 % of the state is listed as in a severe drought.

In Illinois , no reported sales this week from the state .

For Missouri, supply of hay is moderate to heavy, demand is light, and prices are steady . About 60% of the stat e is showing up on the drought monitor. There was concern this week as temperatures were in the t r iple digits.

In So uthwest Minnesota, good supply of l o wer quality hay , with light demand , and l o wer prices . Literally no supply of dairy quality hay at the auction this week.

In Wisconsin , hay supply exceeds demand . Prices were stead y to weaker this week . N o reports of prime quality hay being available or sold at auction this week . Mostly lower quality hay sales this week. Straw s mal l square bale price d ecreased to $ 3 . 00 a bale this week (range of $ 1 . 0 0 to $6.00) .

Large square bale price de creased $ 4 .00 a bale this week , with comments of cl ean wheat straw bringing $ 41.00 a bale . The average price is $ 26 . 0 0 per bale (range of $ 1 5 . 00 to $ 4 1 .00); and large round bale straw dropped $ 8 .00 a bale with average pri ce of $ 26 .00 per bale (range of $ 20 .00 to $35.00) .
