Support STARS Critical Care Mission at Radiothon

On April 1 and 2, 2025, join the community in supporting STARS and their lifesaving efforts by tuning into the Critical Care on the Air Radiothon. This two-day, 12-hour broadcast, aired in partnership with over 50 radio stations across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta, aims to raise $400,000 to support STARS’ critical care operations.

During the event, you’ll hear real stories from Very Important Patients (VIPs), who owe their lives to the skilled STARS medical crew. Also, hear from crew members and community supporters who help make the service possible. All funds raised will go directly to the advanced training of the STARS air medical team, ensuring they can continue delivering vital care in emergencies across vast regions.

One such story comes from Lyle Griffin, a man whose life was saved by STARS after a farming accident nearly cost him his life. Griffin was assisting his future son-in-law with the autumn harvest when a tragic accident occurred. As Griffin was checking the combine, the driver, unaware of Griffin’s location, turned the rear wheel, knocking Griffin down. The 3,500-pound machine rolled over him, causing severe internal injuries.

Paramedics quickly stabilized him before transporting him to Yorkton hospital. After losing critical amounts of blood, Griffin needed more advanced care. STARS responded, transporting him to Regina, where he received two additional blood transfusions and emergency surgery. Griffin spent a week in the hospital before returning home to recover, aided by his wife and a modified home setup.

Griffin’s recovery was a testament to his strength, and four months later, he met with the STARS crew, gifting them handcrafted model helicopters as a symbol of his gratitude. Despite his challenges, Griffin has returned to his passions, looking forward to working on the farm again.
