Manitoba Canola Acres Expected To Drop Slightly In 2021

In Manitoba, canola production was up 4.4% to 3.2 million tonnes in 2020.

Harvested area rose 5.9% to 3.4 million acres.

Delaney Ross Burtnack is executive director with the Manitoba Canola Growers Association.

"Next year, there is probably not going to be quite as many acres as this year," she said. "We might expect a little bit fewer but it was a pretty strong year, this year. Rotation is obviously important. We want to make sure that we continue to grow canola and crops sustainably, so we expect that it might be a little bit less next year but that it will continue to be on par above that three million mark, maybe 3.1 or 3.2 million, somewhere in that range."

In 2020, Manitoba canola yields fell 1.4% to 41.4 bushels per acre.

Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
