March WASDE and Texas Fires

Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of March 3. Watch for coverage of these and other topics through the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

1. WASDE week: On Friday we'll cover the March World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report. The numbers are released at 11 a.m. We'll post those numbers shortly after 11, with updates and analysis throughout the morning. Our preview expectations for the report will be available mid-week. 2. What's the SAF ETA?: The delay of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel decision, due March 1, will continue to be a hot topic through the week. Soybean (oil) and corn (ethanol) markets are semi-patiently waiting for rulings on what will classify for SAF tax credits, and what various feedstocks for those fuels will need to do to qualify. 3. Texas/Oklahoma fires: We're continuing coverage of the devastating fires in the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma areas, which are estimated could be responsible for the deaths of up to 10,000 head of cattle. 4. Weekly weather changes: A cold front moved into western areas on Sunday that will slowly move across the region through Tuesday. Temperatures will dip though remain above normal. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will fill in across the region, helping to increase soil moisture a bit for much of the Ohio Valley. Another storm system will move through late this week and weekend with more widespread precipitation and chances for snow in some areas. Conditions still remain warm going into mid-March and may coax some early planting across the south in the next couple of weeks. DTN Ag Meteorologist John Baranick warns those getting an itch to plant that there are at least six weeks of potentially cold weather to work through in the Midwest and northern areas.

5. Economic reports to watch: Monday, at 10 a.m. we'll have Grain Inspection reports, followed by NASS Dairy Product numbers at 2 p.m. On Tuesday, we'll see factory order figures at 9 a.m., at 2 p.m. is the NASS Chicken and Eggs Statistics. Wednesday, reports start early with ADP Employment numbers 7:15 a.m., at 9 a.m. comes Wholesale Inventories and Job openings. At 10 a.m., the EIA's Weekly Petroleum Status Report (which includes ethanol) will hit. Then at 2 p.m. is the NASS Broiler Hatchery, U.S. and Canadian Cattle and U.S. and Canadian Hogs report.
