Morrison County Triples Barley Production

In 2015, the Northwest District produced 7.15 million bushels of Minnesota’s barley crop, accounting for 77 percent of the state’s total production with an average yield of 78.7 bushels, according to estimates released today by the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. The highest yields were recorded in Norman and Polk counties at 83.6 and 82.1 bushels respectively.

The lowest yielding individual county was Fillmore at 61.8 bushels per acre.
 
Minnesota’s total barley production of 9.24 million bushels was nearly three times that of 2014. Morrison County, with 44,600 bushels of production, showed the largest percent increase, up 5 times from the previous year.
