New General Manager Of Canadian Cattle Association

A new name and now a new general manager.

Ryder Lee who is certainly no stranger to the industry and to dealing with major issues affecting ranchers was named the new GM of the Canadian Cattle Association. Lee believes one of the key issues facing producers right now is the pricing disparity between the farm gate and the store shelf.

"There's an opportunity to help the organization and the way I view that is that helps cattle producers across the country. That's where I started in this industry was working for the national association, so it's neat to come full circle."

Lee worked for the Canadian Cattle Association from 2005 through 2013. "I was based in Ottawa, at that time. It kind of evolved from a policy analyst to when I left there I was the Manager of Federal Provincial Relations, working on making sure the messages that we needed to get heard in Ottawa, were getting heard, and making sure there was a connection between the provincial groups and that national groups."

Lee is focused on working towards the differential between the price of beef at the store and what percentage is coming back to primary producers.

"It's such a complex piece and it's not easy to just build more packing plants because that's something that looks like it's going to happen. What can we do is the trick and looking for solutions and answers."
