Programs can help farmers facing excess rain in northwestern Ontario

As wet weather in northwestern Ontario is creating difficult planting conditions for farmers, Agricorp continues to work directly with farmers in that area.

There is still time to enrol in AgriStability
AgriStability can help farmers who have large declines in net income. The program provides whole farm coverage that is designed to cover large declines in net income caused by production loss, increased costs or market conditions.

Farmers have had time to consider their current situation and assess their risks, and it is now time to finalize decisions. Farmers have until June 30 to secure AgriStability coverage.

Through participation in AgriStability, farmers are eligible to apply for an interim payment under the program. Interim payments provide an advance on the estimated final AgriStability payment.

To enrol in AgriStability, farmers can submit a New Participant Form by June 30, 2022.

Once enrolled, farmers can apply for an interim payment by submitting an Interim Payment Application.

Production Insurance is designed for situations like this
After assessing the risks, consulting with industry, and receiving approval from government, Agricorp has extended planting deadlines in Rainy River and Thunder Bay. The spring wheat planting date was extended from May 31 to June 5, and the canola planting date has been extended from June 10 to June 15.

Unseeded acreage coverage
If the weather prevents farmers from planting all or part of their crop by the planting deadline, they may qualify for an unseeded acreage claim payment under Production Insurance. This coverage helps offset financial burdens, such as fixed costs and maintenance, and can provide more flexibility in business decisions.
