Sunflowers Starting To Turn

Manitoba's scenic yellow sunflower fields are fading away as we draw nearer to harvest.

Ben Friesen, with Scoular Canada, says the crop is looking good.

"The yield potential to my thinking to be definitely average and above. I don't see any fields particularly out there that shouldn't make a good solid average and I'm thinking a lot of the fields will possibly be above the average."

Friesen notes most of the crop is at the R6 or higher stage, where the yellow pedals starts to disappear. He notes farmers will start thinking about desiccation over the next few weeks.

"The more heat we can get the faster hopefully we can get them off starting in very late September early October," added Friesen.
