Swine Virus Found Beyond Risk Zones

Two swine facilities have recently tested positive for Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) in the Rural Municipality of Grasslands. The affected locations include a nursery and a connected finisher site. These premises are located outside Manitoba’s commonly known high-risk areas for PED outbreaks.

In response to the positive cases, a buffer zone has been set up around the sites to help prevent further spread of the virus. Both facilities are currently following the guidelines outlined in Manitoba’s PED Elimination Plan to contain the situation and limit exposure.

Officials have begun diagnostic testing on additional farms that may have had contact with the infected premises. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to monitor and control the disease within the province. More updates on the situation are expected as results become available.

Producers across the region are urged to remain cautious and re-evaluate their current biosecurity measures. Extra care should be taken to avoid any possible transmission of the virus. Authorities continue to stress the importance of vigilance and strict sanitation practices to protect herd health. Farmers are advised to stay informed as new developments arise.
