The tool identifies which dryer may be right for individual operations
Selecting the right grain dryer for an operation can be challenging, that’s why a grain dryer manufacturer has come up with a tool to support farmers in this process.
GSI recently introduced an online Dryer Guide to help growers determine the best dryer for their operation.
“We know every farm is unique whether it’s the commodity that’s being dried, the conditions they’re drying in, or the moisture content a farmer likes to harvest at,” Alan Lockwood, GSI’s condition product manager, told Farms.com. “All of these things play into what the right dryer might be.”

The online tool works in multiple stages.
The first stage asks farmers questions about the primary crop they’re drying, important factors related to the dryer itself, and if the dryer is for food-grade crops.
The primary crops listed on the tool are corn, soybeans, wheat, rice, and canola.
After the tool determines the best dryer (mixed flow, portable, top dry, or tower) based on the farmer’s answers, growers can complete a capacity quiz.
This short questionnaire asks more targeted questions like the number of bushels harvested each day, and the number of moisture points a farmer intends to remove.
After a farmer has all that information is when he or she would contact a local GSI dealer.
“The tool doesn’t replace our dealer network, who are truly the experts in their specific areas,” Lockwood said. “But what it does is sets farmers on the right path to do more research on their own or connect with one of our dealers to learn about their options.”
