Update 46: Alberta wildfire situation (June 20, 4:30 p.m.)

Phased re-entry operations for Fort Chipewyan are planned to begin later this week.

Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation council will host a telephone town hall for all evacuees today, starting at 6:30 p.m.

General community re-entry for Fort Chipewyan residents is scheduled to begin on Thursday, June 22.

Re-entry for Fort Chipewyan residents with mobility issues or health conditions is scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 24.

An evacuation order remains in effect for Little River Cree Nation – Fox Lake.

A four-hour wildfire evacuation alert remains in effect for Edson. Residents should be ready to leave in a short time frame if conditions worsen.

Yellowhead County and the Town of Edson have issued states of local emergency due to heavy rain and flooding.

What fell from Hurricane Helene was historic in the state of North Carolina. The amount of rain was put into perspective of enough to fill Lake Mead. Dr. Kathie Dello doesn’t usually do comparisons like that, but does plenty of figuring on what happened in the weather and climate each day in her job as the state climatologist of North Carolina. Some of the biggest rainfall amounts were in the 20 to 30 inch range over a three day period that will likely change the state for the next three decades or more. We get into 100, 500 and 1,000 floods, the closing of I-40 for a year and how -- if at all – certain things should be rebuilt.
