UT Extension to Conduct Southeast TN Beef Summit

Beef and forage production and marketing, cattle transportation, risk management for your cattle operation and updates on new technology and equipment for the beef industry are topics to be discussed during the Southeast TN Beef Summit, scheduled for April 26 at the McMinn County Expo Center in Athens. The event is free to attend, but pre-registration is required by April 19, 2024.

Doors open at 7:45 a.m. for registered participants. A 4-H breakfast fundraiser will be available between 7:45 – 9 a.m., with 35-minute educational sessions scheduled from 8:40 to 11:30 a.m. Speakers from the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture and Blue Reef Agri-Marketing will be conducting three of the morning sessions. In addition to the educational sessions, the summit will host the largest beef trade show in southeast Tennessee. The first morning session speaker will be Ashley Stokes, dean of UT Extension. Casey Mabry, from Weatherford, Texas, who is a risk management consultant and cattle marketing partner with Blue Reef Agri-Marketing, will be our keynote speaker. He will present “Markets and the Factors that Drive Your Profit Margins.” The keynote talk will be followed by a catered lunch with “country fixin’s.”

Topics for the program will include: cattle transportation, delivering risk management custom to you and pasture renovation. A trade show is also featured. The program will be held at the McMinn County Expo Center (inside the Athens Regional Park), in Athens, Tennessee, on April 26, 2024. The expo will begin at 8:00 a.m. EDT and conclude at 1:45 p.m.
