Wheat Management Workshop For Baylor County Set May 11

The Baylor County Wheat Management Workshop will be held May 11 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Baylor County, 500 N. Main St. in Seymour.
 
The program is designed to assist producers with the selection of wheat varieties for the upcoming year and discuss pest and disease issues that they have seen over the previous year, said Martin Shaw, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Baylor County.
 
Registration is $10 payable at the door, but preregistration is requested by May 8 by calling 940-889-5581, Shaw said.
 
Three Texas Department of Agriculture private pesticide applicator continuing education units – two integrated pest management and one general – will be offered.
 
The program will begin at 2 p.m. and conclude by 5 p.m.
 
Speakers and topics will be:
 
– Dr. Emi Kimura, AgriLife Extension agronomist in Vernon, varieties and their resistance and performance.
 
– Dr. Ron French, AgriLife Extension plant pathologist in Amarillo, rust and disease issues.
 
– Dr. Clark Neely, AgriLife Extension state small grains and oilseed specialist in College Station, pest management issues.
 
– Grant James, U.S. Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency in Oklahoma City, new farm bill and issues.
 
– Ralph Porter, Dow AgroSciences senior sales representative from Abilene, chemical control methods of pest management.
 
– Gerald Hobson, Bayer CropScience area sales manager from Peaster, chemical control methods of pest management.
 
– Neely and Jonathon Ramirez, AgriLife Extension assistant in Vernon, variety plots in Baylor County and their performance.
