Attendees of Nufarm’s plot tour in Aylmer, Ont. on Friday had the chance to learn about the company’s new products – including ones coming down the pipeline.

Farmers were able to learn general information about two of the products in the experimental stages, which should offer some important benefits.

“What I can say is the first product is that it’s a single mode of action, new liquid product,” said James Ferrier, technical services manager for Nufarm. “It’s very easy to work with and has a very low volume application. It will be strong on small seeded annual broadleaf weeds.”

Nufarm’s other new product, still in the experimental stage, is easy for growers to work with, according to Ferrier.

“We have a three mode of action, all-liquid product,” he said. “It’s very easy to handle and will disperse well in sprayer tanks. It will be for broad spectrum grass and broadleaf control, including pigweeds and nightshades. It will be a strong product for IP soybeans.”

Ferrier also highlight a new product that Nufarm launched this year.

“Proliant is a gibberellic acid (GA3) formulation,” he said. “It’s used to stimulate the plant’s natural gibberellic acid production, which is important in how a plant grows cells and divides cells. When we apply Proliant, we see larger root systems and larger above ground plant mass.

“What this does is help the plant capture more nutrients, more water and more sunlight. At the end of the day, we expect high results from those plants.”

Representatives from Valent joined their Nufarm colleagues for the field day. (Nufarm also distributes Valent products in Canada.)

The partnership between the two organizations is a reflection of agriculture’s future, according to Mike Nailor, country lead at Valent Canada.

“You’re looking at combining discovery active (products) with existing active (products),” he said.

“Where Nufarm’s expertise is in generics, our expertise is in bringing discovery pipeline products. Nufarm’s able to combine our new technology with their existing technology, which offers farmers unique solutions that meet the needs of their farm.”
