Farm equipment dealer does things differently

No parts, no service at Owenton, Kentucky business

About an hour’s drive east of Louisville, Kentucky’s National Farm Machinery Show is a farm equipment dealer with a fascinating formula for success in a competitive industry.

“We do things different than other dealers,” owner Monty Craigmyle told Farms.com on the opening day of the trade show.

“We specialize in clean, late-model, high-quality used tractors.”

They don’t sell parts. And they don’t do service. Which makes this one very unique and innovative operation.

In business since 1993, Craigmyle says that 95 per cent of the equipment they sell is farm machinery. And of that, some 94 per cent of sales are tractors.

Craigmyle came up with the concept himself early on, and since those first days, the business deals based on quality and price.

“We sell product all over the world. The Internet is how we are reaching our far-off customers. And our local customers are essentially repeat customers.”

If a customer comes to him looking to have their tractor serviced, Craigmyle will simply pass on a recommendation based on whomever they know and trust.

“As for other dealers who focus the way we do, I don’t know of anyone else who does it the same way,” he explained while standing beside a John Deere tractor he sold off the show floor yesterday.

It’s a unique formula for sure. But it’s just as surely working in Owenton, Kenucky.
