Opportunity to expand U.S. ag exports in Central America
The Foreign Agricultural Service of the USDA is inviting applications from current and aspiring U.S. agribusiness exporters for a trade mission to Guatemala City, from March 3-7, 2025.
This mission aims to facilitate direct interactions between U.S. businesses and potential buyers in the largest economic regions of Central America.
"We are excited to return to Guatemala after our successful 2018 mission," stated Daniel Whitley, the Administrator of the Foreign Agricultural Service. "This trade mission offers an ideal platform to deepen trade ties in the region."
Guatemala, a key player in Central American economics, imported $1.7 billion in U.S. agricultural goods in 2023, with Honduras and El Salvador also showing strong import figures.
The upcoming removal of tariffs under the Central America-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement by 2025 promises further growth opportunities for U.S. exports.
The itinerary for the trade mission includes customized business-to-business meetings, comprehensive market briefings, and insightful site visits, providing participants with a deep dive into the regional market dynamics. This engagement will cover various sectors such as meats, dairy, baked goods, and alcoholic beverages.
Interested exporters should submit their applications by December 3, 2024. Detailed information and application procedures found on the https://fas.usda.gov/topics/trade-missions/guatemala-march-2025 website.
This mission represents a significant step towards expanding U.S. agricultural influence in Central America, leveraging trade relationships and fostering economic growth.
