Lower Crop Insurance Rates for 2025 Announced
The 2025 AgriInsurance program for Manitoba has been released, offering farmers updated coverage details.
Managed by the Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation (MASC), the program is designed to provide reliable support against production risks and quality losses caused by natural events like drought or excessive moisture.
Following a year of reduced claims in 2024, Manitoba farmers will benefit from reduced premium rates for most crops in 2025. For annual crops, the average premium has decreased to $13.01 per acre from $15.43 per acre in 2024. MASC determines these rates using approved methodologies to ensure fairness and reliability.
While global commodity market fluctuations continue to affect crop insurance values, the 2025 season brings mixed results. Certain crops, such as flax and field peas, have higher insured values due to market trends, but most crops have slightly lower values than in the previous year. The total coverage for 2025 is estimated at $4.2 billion.
The program includes new improvements, such as the addition of birdsfoot trefoil to Forage Establishment Insurance, providing greater flexibility for farmers. Enhancements to the Wildlife Damage Compensation program will see increased livestock predation claim values, rising from $3,000 to $7,000 per animal, addressing the financial impact of such incidents more effectively.

AgriInsurance remains a cornerstone risk management tool for Manitoba producers, with over 90% of annual crop acres and more than 7,400 farms participating. The program is jointly funded by the governments of Canada and Manitoba under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.
This initiative reinforces the commitment to helping farmers navigate uncertainties, ensuring their ability to meet production demands while safeguarding their livelihoods.
