Farm To Fly Act Promotes Agriculture’s Role in Clean Aviation Fuel

A bipartisan group of lawmakers has reintroduced the Farm to Fly Act, a key initiative designed to boost sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production and secure agriculture’s role in renewable energy. This legislation ensures that USDA bioenergy programs support SAF development, benefiting farmers and rural economies.

The bill, which was part of the 2024 House Agriculture Committee farm bill, has gained support in both chambers. It includes key measures to integrate SAF into existing federal programs, making U.S. crops eligible for biofuel production.

Industry leaders welcome the move, with Geoff Cooper, CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association, stating, “RFA supports this important legislation, which would bring clarity and stability to the future of sustainable aviation fuels made from U.S. crops.”

Tom Buis, CEO of the American Carbon Alliance, highlighted the economic impact, calling the bill a "game-changer" that creates new opportunities for farmers, ethanol producers, and rural communities.

The legislation aims to reduce dependence on foreign oil by promoting domestic biofuel production. Lawmakers stress that converting agricultural biomass into fuel will not only benefit farmers but also enhance national energy security.

With the rise of SAF, the Farm to Fly Act could play a crucial role in shaping the future of clean energy in the U.S.
