The Ontario government is funding growth in Ontario’s agriculture manufacturing sector. Jaylor Fabricating Inc., a cattle feed-mixer company, is expanding its plant in East Garafraxa, Dufferin County, with the help of the Province.
The expansion will allow the company to boost production, increase its capacity, improve efficiency, and expand its international market presence, according to a Dec. 14 release.
The funding will also enable Jaylor to retain 59 jobs in the region and create ten more.
Jeff Leal, minister of agriculture, food and rural affairs, highlights the importance of growing the agri-food sector.
“Fostering growth within our agri-food sector is a priority for our government as we recognize its potential and economic importance to the province," he says. "Recently, Jaylor was one of 18 agri-food companies who accompanied Michael Chan, Minister of International Trade and me on our first-agri-food trade mission to India where there is potential for Ontario’s innovative agri-food technology.
"Supporting innovative agri-food companies like Jaylor through strategic investments like the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund leads to job creation, productivity and the capacity to bring their technology to emerging markets around the world.”
Brad Duguid, minister of economic development and growth, also notes the impact the employer has had in the area.
“Jaylor is a major employer in this community, and this investment will help to bring more jobs to the Dufferin County,” he said in the release. “Our government is pleased to support Jaylor’s plans to expand its business and increase its exports.”
Steven Del Duca, MPP for Vaughan, echoes the importance of investments like these.
“These jobs are great news for East Garafraxa, and Jaylor’s continued growth is excellent news for the province as a whole,” he said in the release.
“Jaylor is a rural Ontario success story - I’m proud our government is making investments like these that will help expand manufacturing and support the agri-food sector.”
Jake Tamminga, president of Jaylor, expressed his thoughts on the investment.
“Our partnership with the Ontario government has helped us grow our international presence and create more jobs in our community,” he said in the release. “We are dedicated to delivering high quality TMR mixers to our customers around the world, contributing to more efficient cattle farming.”
The Province is investing $207,500 from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund for this expansion, which is expected to be completed by early 2017.
