Apply now for organic initiative funding by January 17

NRCS Oregon has unveiled funding under the Organic Transition Initiative (OTI) to assist producers shifting to organic farming. Applications for this round of funding are open until January 17, 2025.

The Organic Transition Initiative aims to address the challenges farmers face during the 36-month transition to organic certification, a period requiring careful management without synthetic inputs. The program supports farmers through mentoring, market development, and crop insurance assistance.

Eligible participants include farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners in the process of or beginning their organic transition journey.

The program’s holistic approach ensures that transitioning farmers receive technical, financial, and market support to build resilient, sustainable agricultural systems.

“USDA’s efforts to promote organic farming reflect our dedication to transforming the food system through climate-smart practices,” emphasized a USDA spokesperson. The program is a key step in supporting local and regional food production and ensuring fair markets for all producers.
