Lamborghini is known worldwide as a luxury car manufacturer but a tractor from the same company is also available for purchase.

Bonhams Auction House, which is known for selling antiques, artwork, jewelry and cars, is selling a 1957 Lamborghini DLA 35 tractor at an auction in Paris, France this week. The starting bid is listed at £22,000 ($US 27,000).

According to the auctioneers, the tractor is one of about 117 DLA 35 tractors produced and would complete any machinery collection.

“This beautiful tractor would make a distinctive and welcome addition to any significant collection of classic agricultural machinery or a unique addition to any Lamborghini collection,” says the tractor’s listing.

The listing says the tractor is powered by a Lamborghini “three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2,200cc and a relatively potent power output of 36bhp (brake horsepower).”

This specific tractor was restored in 2016, has been fitted with new tires and painted orange and blue, like other DLA tractors.

Ferruccio Lamborghini, the company’s namesake, was the son of grape farmers. As a boy, he developed an interest in farm machinery. In 1940, he founded Lamborghini Tractor and used spare war parts to produce the first tractors.

The 1957 tractor predates the founding of Lamborghini as a luxury car company by about six years.

During the 1960s, Lamborghini’s decision to focus his energies on luxury cars came after he received insults for giving an established manufacturer of luxury cars advice on improving its clutch.

That manufacturer’s name was Enzo Ferrari.

Tractor sold

Bonhams reports the tractor sold for €14,950 (CA $20,959/US $15,956).
