Who reigns supreme between Canada and the U.S.?
Hockey fans on both sides of the 49th parallel are gearing up for the 4 Nations Face-Off final on Feb. 20 between Canada and the United States.
This rematch comes after the U.S. beat Canada 3-1 on Feb. 15 in a game that had three fights within the first 10 seconds of the first period.
Regardless of the competition, if these two North American neighbours are involved, the goal for one country is do to better than the other.
With that at top of mind, Farms.com compiled available data from the USDA and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to see how Canada and the United States stack up against one another in ag categories.
| Canada | U.S.A. |
Number of farmers | 262,455 | 3.4 million |
Number of farms | 189,874 | 1,900,487 |
Average farm size | 809.4 acres | 463 acres |
Total acres of farmland | 153.7 million | 878.6 million |
Total ag exports (2023) | $99.1 billion | $178.7 billion |
Top ag producing province/state by farm cash receipts | Alberta - $23.35 billion in 2023 | California - $59.4 billion in 2023 |
Based on this data, the U.S. has the upper hand in multiple categories when it comes to their Canadian counterparts.
On average, however, Canada has larger farms.
