Agritourism Ontario Celebrates Industry Excellence

Agritourism Ontario recently honoured individuals and organizations for their efforts in promoting and developing rural tourism. The awards, presented at 13th Street Winery in St. Catharines, celebrate excellence in three categories: Ambassador, Leadership, and Member of the Year.

The Ambassador Award went to Ontario's Southwest Tourism Organization, which has played a crucial role in promoting agritourism through its Next Stop Taste series. By creating engaging content and itineraries, they encourage visitors to explore local farms. Their work in training and development supports farmers in expanding their agritourism ventures.

The Leadership Award was presented to Matthew Rae, former MPP for Perth-Wellington. Recognizing the challenges agritourism businesses face with rising insurance costs, he introduced the Growing Agritourism Act – Bill 186. This landmark legislation offers new protections for agritourism operators and represents a significant step forward in supporting the industry.

The Member of the Year award recognized Snyder’s Farm in Bright, Ontario, owned by Meghan and John Snyder. Known for their diverse attractions, including corn mazes, pumpkin patches, hayrides, and Halloween events, they provide year-round entertainment for families. Additionally, they contribute to local charities and community initiatives, making a meaningful impact both on and off the farm.

Agritourism Ontario’s annual awards highlight the dedication of individuals and businesses committed to enhancing rural tourism. Their contributions continue to shape the future of agritourism, bringing visitors closer to the heart of Ontario’s farming heritage.
